Join spinning and dyeing specialist Anna Greenwood for a fun and hands on spinning workshop at Studio 6, Pateley Makers Yard. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to use drop spindle and spinning wheel methods to turn raw wool fleece into beautiful yarn under Anna’s expert guidance.
This class is beginner friendly, and also suitable for those with some background knowledge of spinning. Anna will talk you through the foundations of hand spinning wool, starting with carding scoured fleece, creating topps, and then moving on to spinning using the drop spindle method. You’ll also have the opportunity to have a go on Anna’s spinning wheel, and locally handmade drop spindles will be available to purchase on the day, should you wish to continue practicing at home.
You'll finish the class with new skills, newfound confidence, and a wonderful new hobby. This class is great for beginners or those looking for a new creative outlet, designed for anyone wanting to a new medium in a friendly and welcoming environment. It’s also a fantastic skill to have if you’re a smallholder (or know one!) with fleece to spare at shearing time!
No prior experience is necessary - just bring your creativity and enthusiasm!
